Common Questions

Everything you need to know about riding with The Doctor Ride

How do I schedule a ride?

Booking is easy. You can schedule a ride online using our secure booking form, or simply give us a call. Our team is available to assist you Monday through Saturday. We recommend booking at least 24–48 hours in advance to ensure availability.

What areas do you serve?

The Doctor Ride proudly serves Charlotte, NC and surrounding areas. Not sure if we cover your location? Contact us and we’ll be happy to check.

Do you accept Medicaid or insurance?

We are a private pay transportation provider. At this time, we do not bill Medicaid, Medicare, or private insurance. All rides must be paid directly by the rider, their family, or a sponsoring facility.

What types of transportation do you offer?

We provide non-emergency medical transportation for:

  • Ambulatory passengers (walk-on service)

  • Wheelchair passengers (wheelchair-accessible vehicles)

All rides include door-to-door assistance from trained, professional drivers.

Can I book a round trip?

Absolutely. You can schedule both pick-up and return at the time of booking.

How much does a ride cost?

Rates are based on distance, ride type, and wait time. For a personalized quote, contact us directly.

Will the driver help me into the building?

Yes. Our service includes door-to-door assistance, meaning we’ll escort you from your front door into the medical facility or office, and back again when you’re ready.

Can a caregiver or family member come with me?

Of course. One companion may ride at no additional charge, just let us know in advance.

How far in advance should I schedule?

We encourage booking at least 24 hours ahead. However, we do our best to accommodate same-day requests when possible. Call us to check availability.

What happens if my appointment runs late?

We understand that delays happen. If your appointment is running behind, just give us a call. Wait-time fees may apply after a set grace period.

Are your drivers professionally trained?

Yes. All of our drivers undergo background checks, defensive driving courses, passenger assistance training, and CPR/First Aid certification. We take safety and service seriously.

Is there a cancellation fee?

Wait and return appointments require us to commit a vehicle and driver for an extended period of time, often three to six hours or more, which means we are unable to assist any other clients during that window. These rides are usually booked weeks in advance, and when someone cancels at the last minute, the chances of rebooking that time for another client are extremely slim. We also charge no show fees because a driver and vehicle have already been dispatched, resulting in lost time and resources and preventing us from helping other clients who may have needed the service. For wait and return appointments, there is a $75 cancellation fee if cancelled within 2 weeks and a $100 fee for no shows. For standard single trips, there is a $45 cancellation fee for cancellations made within 24 hours and a $75 fee for no shows. If a medical provider cancels the appointment and the client provides proof, no cancellation fee is charged for either type of ride.

Do I need to have a doctor’s appointment to use your service?

Not necessarily. While we specialize in non-emergency medical transportation, we also provide rides to physical therapy, dialysis, outpatient procedures, and even pharmacy or lab visits. Let us know your needs.

How long will the driver wait at my appointment?

You can request a wait-and-return ride or a scheduled return.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards. Facility accounts may be invoiced with prior approval. Payment is due upon completion of the service unless other arrangements are made.

Can I set up recurring transportation?

Yes. If you have regular appointments (such as weekly treatments or rehab), give us a call to ask about our regular rider program.

Do you provide stretcher or gurney transport?

At this time, we do not offer stretcher or emergency transport. We specialize in ambulatory and wheelchair-accessible non-emergency transportation only.

What makes The Doctor Ride different from other transportation services?

We’re locally owned, professionally staffed, and focused exclusively on providing a premier non-emergency medical transportation service. With door-to-door service, live scheduling support, and trusted drivers, we go above and beyond rideshare or taxi alternatives.

How do I get started as a new client?
