Atrium Health Cabarrus sits on Church Street, and the specialty offices stack up beside it on Medical Park Drive, where a four-story building connects straight into the hospital's main entrance. A few minutes away on Gateway Court there is a surgery center, and on Vinehaven Drive a second practice doing endoscopy work. For most of the county Concord is the place you drive to. For the people who live here, it is the neighborhood.

Being close does not get you there. An endoscopy center will not start a procedure until it knows who is driving you home, and a five-minute drive does not change that answer. Neither does a dilated eye exam, a hold on driving after surgery, or the morning when the spouse who normally drives is the one having the procedure.

We pick up from home and from senior living and rehabilitation communities across Concord, including Brookdale Concord South on Cabarrus Avenue West and Morningside of Concord on Penny Lane. Three ways to book

On wait and return, for minor procedures including colonoscopies, our driver can serve as the designated person the facility requires before it will perform or discharge the procedure. Concord has two centers doing endoscopy work, one on Gateway Court and one on Vinehaven Drive, and at both of them that requirement is what pushes appointments off the calendar.

Every driver is CPR certified, PASS certified for wheelchair securement, and HIPAA trained. We use our own vehicles and our own drivers, so there is no third party in the middle and nobody to hand your ride off to.

We check the pickup before we confirm

Before any booking is confirmed we ask about the driveway and the entrance at both ends: the surface, whether there is a flat spot to lower the lift, whether a full-size van can turn around, and how many steps there are.

Concord runs from the older streets near downtown, where houses sit up off the sidewalk behind a flight of steps to a covered porch, out to the newer subdivisions and 55+ communities off Poplar Tent Road and George W Liles Parkway, where the garage is the practical entrance and the driveway is short and steep. Different houses, same question. A lift needs level ground, and there is a hard limit on how many steps we will ramp a wheelchair over. Two minutes on the booking call settles it.

The drive

Concord sits about twenty-one to twenty-four miles from Uptown Charlotte, and I-85 covers it in roughly thirty minutes when the road behaves. It does not always behave. The stretch through the Concord Mills interchange decides your morning, and it swings by the hour rather than by the mileage.

Inside Concord the numbers are small: most addresses are within ten minutes of the hospital campus, and the Gateway Court and Medical Park Drive buildings sit a couple of minutes past it. Give us the appointment time and we will work backward from it, not from a map estimate.

You are a Charlotte company. Do you actually drive up to Concord?

Yes. Concord is inside our regular service area and we drive it every week, around town and back down I-85 for appointments in Charlotte. If your pickup is a Concord address, we come to you.

My appointment is on Medical Park Drive, not inside the hospital. Do you go there?

Yes. The Medical Park Drive buildings sit beside the hospital and hold the biggest concentration of specialists in the county, from the cancer institute suite to neurology. One of them connects into the main entrance, which is why the letter sometimes reads like a hospital appointment and sometimes does not. Read us the street number and we will get you to the right door.

My colonoscopy is at Gateway Ambulatory Surgery Center and they say I need a responsible adult. Can the driver be that person?

Yes. Book it as wait and return. The driver stays on the property for the whole appointment and can be the designated person the center requires before it will perform the procedure and discharge you.

My father uses a wheelchair and has follow-ups at OrthoCarolina on Copperfield Boulevard. Can you take him?

Yes. Our vehicles are ADA compliant and every driver is PASS certified for wheelchair securement, so he stays in his chair the whole way. If the follow-ups run on a set schedule, tell us the sequence when you call rather than booking one morning at a time.

I am being discharged from Atrium Health Cabarrus and nobody in my family can leave work. Can you take me home?

Yes. A discharge ride is a one-way and we do them regularly. Call with the unit and the entrance staff use, and tell us if you are leaving in a wheelchair, because that decides which vehicle we send.

Do you answer the phone at night?

Yes. Every call is answered, never voicemail. During our hours you are put through to the team on the spot. Calls that come in later are captured and worked, never dropped.
