Medical Transportation in Cornelius
Private-pay rides to appointments, procedures, and home from the hospital, for Cornelius and the neighborhoods around 28031.
Cornelius spent years sending its residents somewhere else for hospital care. That changed in 2025, when Atrium Health Lake Norman opened on Tree of Life Lane with an emergency department, operating rooms, imaging, and maternity in town for the first time.
Care in Cornelius is genuinely split between two systems. Atrium runs the new hospital and an orthopedic urgent care beside it. Novant holds much of the outpatient side, including orthopedics on Old Jetton Road. It is normal here to have appointments with both systems in the same month, in buildings several miles apart.
We drive all of it. We are a private-pay medical transportation service based in Charlotte, and Cornelius is one of the areas we run every week.

We pick up from home and from Autumn Care of Cornelius on Mt. Zion Parkway. Cornelius has no cancer center of its own, so we also make the regular drive out of town for treatment courses: the Novant Health Cancer Institute in Huntersville, the Levine Cancer Institute in Uptown, and Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital up in Mooresville.
After orthopedic surgery
Cornelius has an unusual concentration of orthopedic and physical therapy practices for a town its size, and post-surgical patients are the ones the driving restriction hits hardest. A knee or hip replacement, a repaired right foot, an arm in a sling: cleared to go home, not cleared to drive, and facing a course of therapy two or three times a week for weeks. We handle standing appointments like that, not only one-off rides.
What Our Clients Say
Our Google rating is 5.0 across more than 50 reviews.
Three ways to book
One-way
We take you there, or we bring you home. Priced as a single leg. It does not include a return.
Round trip
We take you and we come back for you. The return leg is guaranteed.
Wait & return
The driver stays on site for the whole visit, in the reception area if that is easier.
On wait and return, for minor procedures including colonoscopies, our driver can serve as the designated person the facility requires before it will perform or discharge the procedure. That is often the specific thing standing between someone and their appointment date.
Every driver is CPR certified, PASS certified for wheelchair securement, and HIPAA trained. We use our own vehicles and our own drivers, so there is no third party in the middle and nobody to hand your ride off to.
We check the pickup before we confirm
Before any booking is confirmed we ask about the driveway and the entrance at both ends: the surface, whether there is a flat spot to lower the lift, whether a full-size van can turn around, and how many steps there are.
Cornelius makes this question worth asking. A lot of the housing sits on the water off Jetton Road and West Catawba Avenue, on narrow lots with long driveways, mature trees, and no easy place to turn a full-size van around. A lift needs level ground, and there is a hard limit on how many steps we will ramp a wheelchair over. We would rather work that out while you are on the phone than have a driver discover it on the morning of a procedure.
The drive
Uptown Charlotte is about 20 miles down I-77, roughly 22 minutes when the road is clear and considerably longer in the morning southbound rush. Huntersville is only a few minutes south, which matters because several specialties Cornelius does not have sit right there.
Inside town, distance on a map and distance by road are not the same thing. The neighborhoods wrap around the coves, so a pickup that looks close can be a real drive. Tell us your appointment time when you book and we will work backward from it.
Common questions from Cornelius riders
You are based in Charlotte. Is Cornelius too far north for you?
No. Cornelius is inside our regular service area and we drive it every week, both to the hospital on Tree of Life Lane and south on I-77 for appointments in Huntersville and Charlotte. If your pickup is a Cornelius address, we come to you.
Do you go to the new Atrium Health Lake Norman hospital?
Yes, for appointments, for procedures, and for discharge rides home. It is one of the closer destinations we drive to in Cornelius, and being close does not change the fact that sedation and post-surgical restrictions mean you are not driving yourself.
I had knee surgery and cannot drive for six weeks. Can you handle physical therapy three times a week?
Yes. Standing appointments are a normal thing for us, not a special request. Tell us the schedule when you call and we will set up the sequence rather than making you book each one separately.
My treatment is in Charlotte, not in Cornelius. Do you drive that far each way?
Yes. Cornelius does not have a cancer center, so the drive to Huntersville or to the Levine Cancer Institute in Uptown is a normal one for us. On a longer appointment, wait and return is usually the better choice, since the driver stays with you rather than leaving and coming back.
I live on the water and the driveway is narrow. Can a full-size van get in?
Usually, but we confirm it before the ride rather than guessing. We will ask about the driveway surface, the turnaround, overhanging trees, and the steps at the door. If the main driveway does not work, we find the entrance that does.
Do you answer the phone at night?
Yes. Every call is answered, never voicemail. During our hours you are put through to the team on the spot. Calls that come in later are captured and worked, never dropped.
