Medical Transportation in Davidson

Davidson has no hospital. It has no imaging center, no outpatient surgery center, and no cancer center either. What it has is 705 Griffith St, one medical building holding orthopedics, physical therapy, and a gastroenterology office, and three separate health systems ringed around the town: Novant Health in Huntersville, Atrium Health in Cornelius, and Duke Health in Mooresville.

None of the three is far, and that is not the point. The point is that every appointment involving sedation, anesthesia, a dilated eye, or a driving hold is an out of town ride in both directions. Whoever volunteers loses most of a day rather than an hour, twice if they go home in between. Getting there was never the hard half.

That is what we do. We are a private-pay medical transportation service based in Charlotte, and Davidson is one of the areas we drive every week.

We pick up from houses across Davidson and from The Pines at Davidson on Avinger Lane, the continuing care community beside the college. Because so little care is in town, most Davidson bookings end somewhere else: the Novant Health Cancer Institute in Huntersville, the surgery and endoscopy centers on Statesville Road, or a specialist in Charlotte. We drive out and we bring you home.

Three ways to book

On wait and return, for minor procedures including colonoscopies, our driver can serve as the designated person the facility requires before it will perform or discharge the procedure. That matters more for a Davidson rider than most, because the procedure is always in another town, and waiting on site removes a second drive out and back the same morning.

Every driver is CPR certified, PASS certified for wheelchair securement, and HIPAA trained. We use our own vehicles and our own drivers, so there is no third party in the middle and nobody to hand your ride off to.

We check the pickup before we confirm

Before any booking is confirmed we ask about the driveway and the entrance at both ends: the surface, whether there is a flat spot to lower the lift, whether a full-size van can turn around, and how many steps there are.

Davidson runs from the old grid around Main Street, where a covered porch above a few steps is standard, out to lakeside lanes that dead end with nowhere to turn a full-size van, and then to newer neighborhoods off NC-73. A lift needs level ground, and there is a hard limit on how many steps we will ramp a wheelchair over. On a multi-building campus like The Pines, the building and the entrance matter more than the street address, so give us both.

The drive

Davidson is about twenty miles from Uptown Charlotte, roughly twenty two to thirty minutes on I-77 from Exit 30 when the interstate cooperates. The three systems around town are far closer than that, so the honest number depends on which one your doctor sent you to.

Two local things move the clock. Main Street is NC-115 and runs at town speed, not highway speed, especially around the college. The NC-73 corridor is under a widening project by NCDOT, so the road and the map estimate do not always agree. Give us the appointment time and we plan backward from it.

Common questions from Davidson riders

My paperwork says Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. Is that place still there?

It is, under a new name. Duke Health bought the Mooresville hospital in April 2025. It now operates as Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital at 171 Fairview Rd. Same building, same road, new sign. If your referral or your memory says Lake Norman Regional, say that on the phone and we will know where you mean.

Carolina Digestive is right here on Griffith Street. Will my colonoscopy be there?

No. The Griffith Street location is a physician office for consultations and follow-ups, not a procedure site. The colonoscopy itself is done at their Huntersville or Concord location. That makes it a ride out of town with sedation at the far end, which is what wait and return exists for.

My mother lives at The Pines at Davidson. Can you pick her up there?

Yes. The Pines is a campus rather than a single front door, with different buildings for different levels of care, so tell us her building and the entrance the staff use for transport. We drive to and from senior living and skilled nursing communities the same way we drive to a house.

Which hospital will you take me to?

The one on your paperwork. We do not choose your care and we do not steer anyone toward a system. Novant in Huntersville, Atrium in Cornelius, Duke in Mooresville, or a Charlotte campus if that is where the referral went: give us the address and that is where we go.

Is the road work on NC-73 going to make me late?

It can, and it is one reason we ask for your appointment time instead of the pickup time you have in mind. Widening work keeps changing that corridor and a map estimate does not know about it. We plan the pickup against the appointment and adjust as the work moves.

Do you answer the phone at night?

Yes. Every call is answered, never voicemail. During our hours you are put through to the team on the spot. Calls that come in later are captured and worked, never dropped.
