Past that, where you get referred depends on which side of the line you live. Cabarrus-side addresses route south to Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord, ten to fifteen minutes down the road. Rowan-side addresses route north to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury. Same town, two systems, opposite directions.

Neither drive is long, and that is exactly why it catches people out. Ten minutes still requires a driver. Sedation for an endoscopy, a dilated eye exam, a hold on driving after surgery: a building being close by does not change who has to be behind the wheel, and the center will ask that question before it books you.

Before any booking is confirmed we ask about the driveway and the entrance at both ends: the surface, whether there is a flat spot to lower the lift, whether a full-size van can turn around, and how many steps there are.

Kannapolis housing runs from the old mill village streets near downtown, where small houses sit close together with a few steps up to the porch and little room at the curb, out to the newer subdivisions toward Kannapolis Parkway where the garage is the practical entrance. Both ends raise the same question. A lift needs level ground, and there is a hard limit on how many steps we will ramp a wheelchair over. Two minutes on the phone settles it.

The drive

Kannapolis is about twenty-five miles from Uptown Charlotte, twenty-five to twenty-nine minutes down I-85 when the road is clear. Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord is ten to fifteen minutes south. Salisbury is a straight run north on the same interstate, and the timing there depends on where in town you start, so we work it out from your address rather than guess here.

Downtown Kannapolis is easy to describe to a driver: the NC Research Campus on North Research Campus Drive is the landmark everything else sits around. Give us the appointment time and we work backward from it, not from a map estimate.

Which hospital do you take me to, Concord or Salisbury?

Whichever one your doctor sends you to. As a rule, Cabarrus-side addresses get referred to Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord and Rowan-side addresses to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury. We drive both. Read us the name off the appointment letter and there is nothing left to guess.

I live on the Rowan County side of Kannapolis. Is that still your service area?

Yes. Our area is greater Charlotte plus roughly forty to forty-five minutes' drive, all within North Carolina, and both sides of Kannapolis sit inside it. The Rowan side is a longer run for us, and that changes nothing about whether we come.

There is nowhere in Kannapolis to have a colonoscopy. Where do you take me, and can the driver wait?

Concord, usually Gateway Ambulatory Surgery Center on NE Gateway Court or Northeast Digestive Health Center on Vinehaven Drive NE. Book it as wait and return. The driver stays on the property for the whole appointment and can be the designated person the center requires before it will perform the procedure and discharge you.

My father uses a wheelchair. Can you take him from Kannapolis to appointments in Concord?
