A couple of miles away, the Park Center Drive complex holds a surgery center and an orthopedic practice in the same cluster of buildings.

That is a lot of care within a few minutes of home, and it does nothing about the one restriction that matters. Sedation, anesthesia, a dilated eye exam, a post-surgical driving hold: none of them care that the building is close. You still need someone else behind the wheel, and most centers will not start the procedure until they know who that someone is.

Every driver is CPR certified, PASS certified for wheelchair securement, and HIPAA trained. We use our own vehicles and our own drivers, so there is no third party in the middle and nobody to hand your ride off to.

We check the pickup before we confirm

Before any booking is confirmed we ask about the driveway and the entrance at both ends: the surface, whether there is a flat spot to lower the lift, whether a full-size van can turn around, and how many steps there are.

Matthews housing runs from older homes near the town center with a few steps up to a covered porch, to newer subdivisions with steep short driveways. Both raise the same question. A lift needs level ground, and there is a hard limit on how many steps we will ramp a wheelchair over. We would rather find the side door or the garage entrance while you are on the phone than have a driver discover the problem on the morning of a procedure.

The drive

Matthews sits about ten miles from Uptown Charlotte on Independence Boulevard, and the honest version is that the mileage tells you very little. Independence runs freeway-grade near I-485 at the Matthews end, then drops to surface streets and traffic lights as it gets closer to the city. The delay is almost never in Matthews. It is the light sequence through the Eastland and Cotswold stretch, and it varies enormously by time of day.

You are based in Charlotte. Do you actually come out to Matthews?

Yes. Matthews is inside our regular service area and we drive it every week, both to the Matthews Township Parkway campus and into Charlotte on Independence. If your pickup is a Matthews address, we come to you.

Is the Union West emergency department in Matthews or in Union County?

It carries Union West branding but the building is physically in Matthews, on Healing Way. It is a common point of confusion. Give us the street address and there is no ambiguity about where we are taking you.

I have radiation scheduled every weekday for several weeks. Is that something you do?

Yes, and a course of daily treatment is one of the harder things to solve with favors from family. Tell us the schedule when you call and we will set up the sequence rather than making you rebook each morning.

My procedure is at the surgery center on Park Center Drive. Can the driver wait?

Yes. Book wait and return. The driver stays on the property for the whole appointment and can be the designated person the center needs before it will perform the procedure and discharge you.

My mother is at a rehabilitation facility in Matthews and uses a wheelchair. Can you pick up from there?

Yes. We pick up from rehabilitation and senior living communities the same way we pick up from a house. Our vehicles are ADA compliant and our drivers are PASS certified for securement. Tell us which entrance staff use for transport and we will confirm it before the ride.

Do you answer the phone at night?

Yes. Every call is answered, never voicemail. During our hours you are put through to the team on the spot. Calls that come in later are captured and worked, never dropped.
