Stallings is a town of about sixteen thousand with almost no medical care inside its own limits, and that matters far less than it sounds. Atrium Health Union West sits about five minutes east, on the Stallings and Matthews line, with an emergency department open around the clock, three operating rooms, and a helipad. Novant Health Matthews Medical Center is about five minutes the other direction. Very few towns this size have two full campuses that close.

Five minutes does not solve the thing that actually keeps people from getting to the appointment. A sedated procedure, an infusion, a cataract, a discharge with a driving restriction attached: none of it is a distance problem. It is a question of whether there is another adult free that morning, and in plenty of Stallings households on a weekday there is not.

We pick up from houses, and from senior living and rehabilitation communities on both sides of the town line, including Matthews Glen on Pavilion View Drive, Lake Park Nursing & Rehab on Faith Church Road, and Woodridge Indian Trail on Manor Stone Way. We also drive Stallings riders into Charlotte for specialists and to the Levine Cancer Institute in Uptown.

Three ways to book

On wait and return, for minor procedures including colonoscopies, our driver can serve as the designated person the facility requires before it will perform or discharge the procedure. Union West runs three operating rooms, and same-day surgery is exactly the case where that requirement catches families out.

Every driver is CPR certified, PASS certified for wheelchair securement, and HIPAA trained. Our vehicles are ADA compliant, and a wheelchair rider is secured in their own chair rather than moved into a seat.

We check the pickup before we confirm

Before any booking is confirmed we ask about the driveway and the entrance at both ends: the surface, whether there is a flat spot to lower the lift, whether a full-size van can turn around, and how many steps there are.

Stallings is mostly small-lot subdivisions off Old Monroe Road, with older ranch homes on bigger lots mixed in and a few 55-plus neighborhoods built around narrow courts and shared drives. The 55-plus streets are the ones worth flagging when you call. Homes sit close together, guest parking is thin, and a full-size van sometimes has one workable place to stop. A lift needs level ground, and there is a hard limit on how many steps we will ramp a wheelchair over.

The drive

Almost everything a Stallings rider needs is a few minutes away on Old Monroe Road or Independence Boulevard. Union West is roughly five minutes east and Novant Health Matthews Medical Center roughly five minutes west. Those are short enough that the day gets shaped by how long the appointment runs, not by the driving.

Charlotte is the longer run. Independence Boulevard is freeway-grade near I-485 and then hands you a long sequence of traffic lights as it gets closer to the city, so the same distance can take wildly different amounts of time depending on the hour. Common questions from Stallings riders

There is nothing medical in Stallings itself. Does that make me harder to serve?

It works the other way. Two campuses sit within about five minutes of most Stallings addresses, one in each direction, so the driving is usually the shortest part of the day rather than the obstacle.

My appointment letter says Matthews, but everyone I know calls it the Stallings hospital. Which is it?

Both, in a sense. Atrium Health Union West at 1000 Healing Way carries a Matthews mailing address and sits on the Stallings and Matthews line. There is only one building, so read us the street address and there is nothing left to get wrong.

My husband is having surgery at Union West. Can you take us both and bring us both home?

Yes. Book wait and return and the driver is on site the entire time, in the reception area if that is easier. Riding along with him is fine, and it helps to say so when you book.

My specialist is at Atrium Health Union in Monroe, not at Union West. Do you go that far?

Yes. Monroe is a regular run for us and Atrium Health Union on Hospital Drive is one of the buildings we drive to most in the county. The two names look almost identical on paper, so tell us the street and we will take you to the right one.

I live in a 55-plus neighborhood off Weddington Road. Can a van even get in there?

Usually yes, and we check rather than assume. Those neighborhoods are single-family homes built around narrow courts with short driveways and limited guest parking, so before we confirm we ask where a full-size van can stop, whether there is level ground for the lift, and how many steps there are.

Do you answer the phone at night?

Yes. Every call is answered, never voicemail. During our hours you are put through to the team on the spot. Calls that come in later are captured and worked, never dropped.
